MyMedicare

Voluntary patient registration model to strengthen your care

What is My Medicare?

MyMedicare is a new voluntary patient registration model. It aims to strengthen the relationship between patients, their general practice, general practitioner (GP) and primary care teams.

Why is it important?

MyMedicare patients will have access to:

  • Greater continuity of care with their registered practice, improving health outcomes
  • Some services only available at their registered practice, including longer MBS-funded telephone calls (Levels C & D) with their usual GP
  • Better hospital connections
  • Priority access to appointments
  • Bulk billing for chronic disease assessment & management
  • Bulk billing for eligible patients including pensioners & children

Patient Eligibility

To register in MyMedicare, patients must have either:

  • A Medicare card
  • Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) Veteran Card

Most patients need two face-to-face visits with the same practice in the previous 24 months to be eligible. Parents/guardians and children can register together if one is eligible. Patients can only register with one practice at a time.

How to register

Patients can register with their regular general practice and select their preferred GP. Registration does not prevent access to other providers. New telehealth and aged-care services link to your registered practice.

Complete registration in one of the following ways:

  • Start via Medicare online services (Medicare Online Account or Express Plus App), then practice staff accept or decline
  • Practice staff start registration in MyMedicare; patient completes and consents via Medicare online services
  • Fill out and sign a registration form at the practice; staff enter details into MyMedicare

Additional Details

Patients registering with a DVA Veteran Card must complete a form at the practice (Medicare online registration requires a Medicare card). A parent/guardian must register children under 14 and provide consent. Young people aged 14–17 can register and consent themselves. Child registration under 14 must be completed at the practice.
